On September the 7th 2013, President Xi Jinpin made one of the most significant speeches in China’s recent history when he announced the Belt and Road Initiative.

Springing cities from the desert, forging new trade routes across continents and oceans, and launching whole countries into the global digital sphere, the Belt and Road Initiative is set to be the largest infrastructure project since the Marshall Plan, aiming to modernise the ancient Silk Road. So far, it includes 68 countries and covers a vast area of Eurasia and parts of Africa and Oceania.

Dr. May-yi Shaw travels to Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan to explore the ancient Silk Road’s revival, and meets with businesses and entrepreneurs looking to benefit from the trillion of dollars of spending in the first phase of the Belt and Road Initiative.
